Questions and answers about The ocean straw
What are your straws made from?

Our straws are made from an innovative wood and plant-based material– a sustainable alternative to plastic and PLA, with significantly faster biodegradation.

How are the straws produced?

They are manufactured in Spain using efficient extrusion technology that minimizes waste and energy use. Existing plastic machinery is repurposed, reducing the need for new investments.

Are the straws reusable?

Yes. Each straw is dishwasher-safe (up to 10 cycles at 60°C) and replaces 10 single-use straws – saving money and reducing waste.

Can I use them with hot drinks?

Absolutely. The Ocean Straw is durable and heat-resistant, making it suitable for hot beverages like coffee and tea.

What makes them sustainable?

The Ocean Straw is renewable, biodegradable, and fits into a circular economy. When composted, it becomes nutrient-rich soil, helping reduce single-use waste.

Are they compostable?

Yes, certified industrially compostable (EN 13432). After use, they can go into bio-waste and be turned into compost for agriculture.

Are they biodegradable?

Yes. They break down into CO₂, water, and biomass – leaving no microplastics or toxic residues. In composting facilities, this takes under 6 months.

How should I dispose of them?

Dispose of The Ocean Straw in bio-waste bins. They’re ideal for organic recycling in industrial composting systems.

Do the straws contain PFAs?

No. They are free from PFAs, glues, and common allergens – making them safe for both health and the environment.

How do they compare to paper straws?

Unlike soggy and short-lived paper straws, The Ocean Straw is durable, safe, and reusable. It doesn’t disintegrate in drinks or pose choking risks.

How do they compare to PLA straws?

PLA straws are sensitive to heat, single-use, and degrade very slowly in nature. The Ocean Straw is heat-resistant, reusable, and degrades faster – even in marine environments.

What sizes and colors are available?

Standard sizes: 6 mm and 8 mm diameters, 150 mm and 200 mm lengths. Colors: Natural wood, black, and red.

Are custom options available?

Yes. Custom lengths (230 mm, 260 mm), 10 mm diameter, more colors (e.g., blue), paper wrapping, and custom print available upon request.

What is the shelf life?

24 months when stored in original packaging at room temperature, protected from sunlight and humidity.
